I started brewing when I was 16 using a combination of liquid malt extract kits and adding whole hops during the brewing process. Fast forward to four years ago I wanted to re-visit to brewing. I converted the garage into a small homebrew setup making 10 gallon batches of beer at a time. Each brew was tried and tested on family and friends to perfect various recepies that I was happy with.

Husband and wife team, Paul and Kate, wanted to start a brewery from scratch following a commerical brewing course in Manchester. Wanting to start a 10 barrel brewery the costs were out of our financial reach. However we did find an existing 2.5 BBL brewery that was for sale that had been established in the market place for two years. As part of the purchase of the company we had to relocate the brewery to Palehouse Common. With future plans to expand to a 10 barrel plant we took the decision to buy a 10 barrel Hot Liquor Tank (HLT). This enabled us to achieve two brews in one day albeit a long day!

Black Cat's new home in Palehouse Common has given us the ideal chance to expand the business into supplying local pubs with casks and bottles for retail outlets.
